What can I expect when taking my car to be serviced?
Whether your vehicle has been serviced before or not, it is always good to know and understand what the service will entail. Increasing your knowledge when it comes to the well-being of your vehicle can only benefit you, and such information would help avoid being blindsided by the mechanic and ensuring all the necessary questions are asked.
A service is considered a more in-depth inspection where workshops can see which components are in a good condition and are allowed to access any components to ensure the examination of the vehicle is 100% accurate.
Estimated service time?
Service times differ depending on the level of work that needs to be done. Routine services usually take about an hour, and a full service could take up to 3 hours. If a certain part or component needs repair or replacement, the service time could be longer. Ensure that you enquire about how long servicing your vehicle will be so that you can plan accordingly.
What does a service consist of?
Services differ depending on whether it’s a minor or major service, includes a thorough check of the entire vehicle. The inspection includes internal and external components such as oil, filters, brake system, spark plugs, and much more. Sometimes services can become a bit more complex if the vehicle hasn’t been serviced as it should be. This could also be due to the misuse of the vehicle.
What’s the service fee?
It all depends on which components are covered in your service plan. Factors such as the age of your vehicle and the kilometers driven will also add to the outcome. For example, a 2015 Hyundai i20 with 75 000km on the clock, could be quoted for R3500, it really all depends on the workshop itself.
What are the benefits of a service?
- Maximize the resale value,
- Extends the vehicle’s lifecycle,
- Increases its performance,
- Lowers the cost of driving.
What do to when claiming for a Service Plan?
Before you will be able to claim, normally a certain amount of monthly payments is required before the plan becomes valid. Once valid, you will need to inform your insurer of the required service, contact an approved workshop to book your vehicle, and let them know you have a service plan. The approved workshop would need to provide a quote which will need to be sent to the insurer to authorise. Once approved, your vehicle can then be serviced, and the insurer will pay the workshop directly.
The claims process can be a tricky process, that is why it’s important to read your policy wording and ensure that you fully understand what’s included in the service plan. A Motorvaps Service Plan is suited to fit your budget, takes care of your vehicle, and offers you peace of mind.
